The main entrance is moved to the side. This way you enter through a private courtyard designed by Jan Minne.

The attic will accommodate the library, offices and meeting rooms.

Reconversion of the Sint-Hubertus church

Berchem

The design explores the potential for adaptive reuse of the neo-gothical Sint-Hubertus church in Antwerp. The Flemish Architecture institute (VAi) aims at housing their archive and office spaces in the iconic building. The design proposes “a friendly giant”, a big volume in the nave of the church that serves as a depot for the archive. This large blue timber volume has an open ground floor for exhibitions and a closed upper part for archives. On either end a reading room looks out over the church through a large round opening. The rest of the church can host neighborhood activities without the need for further climatizing.
Offices and library are situated in the church attic, where a more intimate and affordable workspace climate can be offered.
